"We have received information from Spanish police that a Swedish man is wanted by Interpol," said Linn Duvhammar at the Swedish Foreign Ministry to The Local on Thursday.

Spanish police have reported the matter to Interpol for assistance in tracing the man who is suspected of having stabbed 32-year-old Angela del Carmen in the neck and leaving her to die in an apartment on Cantera beach in Las Palmas.

The apartment is reported to have been rented by the Swede who is described in local media reports as as tall, well-built, blonde and tattooed.

The woman's body was discovered by police after neighbours reported a smell emanating from the apartment. Del Carmen was found lifeless on the bed with a knife in her throat, according to the report.

Spanish police believe that the woman, who originates from Santa Maria de Guia and lived in Tauro on Gran Canaria, was killed on either July 4th or 5th as the body had already begun to decompose.

According to a police source cited by La Provincia, the Swede is thought to have fled the Mediterranean island for Turkey.
