Nude pic of 83-year-old bullfighter shocks Spain
Fifty years ago bullfighter Jaime Ostos was the victim of a horrific goring in the ring. On Wednesday, he shocked readers of Spain's La Gaceta newspaper by removing his trousers to show the damage to his groin half a century on.
While Spanish media has been engulfed by a corruption scandal involving Spanish Prime Minister and his ruling Popular Party, business daily La Gaceta opted for a different stance on the day’s biggest news story.
The paper dedicated most of its front cover to an image of 83-year-old former bullfighter Jaime Ostos baring a scar from his bullfighting days, for which he had to drop his trousers and hide his genitalia.
La Gaceta ran the story with the title “Doctors preferred to sign my death certificate rather than get blood on their hands”.

Despite the best efforts of Spain’s political corruption scandal, the story, and the photo, have not gone unnoticed.
Spanish Twitter users joked about La Gaceta’s “desperate attempt” to grab the limelight from El Mundo newspaper after their widely publicized stories on ex treasurer Luis Bárcenas’s illicit payments to Popular Party members.
“We’re a different newspaper,” tweeted José Antonio Fúster, editor of the Madrid-based daily.
Fúster and his colleagues have justified their choice of story and photo by the fact that it’s the 50th anniversary of the goring which nearly cost bullfighter Jaime Ostos his life.
They even went as far as publishing a follow-up article in which they describe how it was Ostos who offered to drop his trousers to show where the beast had caught him.
“Shoot as many as you want,” Ostos allegedly told the journalist and photographer.
