Norwegian Trade and Enterprise Minister Trond Giske is set to bar entry to the ministry for his entire staff of 200 employees, but his intent is educational as he sends them off on one-day field trips into the Norwegian business wilds.

It is the fourth year running that Giske has made sure his staff leave their desks and go experience life in the private sector.

This year, his adventurous employees have been given the theme "projects and developments" to explore, with Giske's staff set to get close and personal with companies that have gone through significant changes in recent times.

"We very much want to hear about the experiences of these companies," Giske said in a statement on Wednedsay as he announced the fourth annual desk-escape plan.

"They get the chance to give us input on the government's enterprise politics, while we get the chance to offer an insight into how the ministry works."
