A Spanish journalist and blogger has captured plenty of attention by saying women should finally learn to live with their body hair.

Paloma Goñi has always hated the whole business of removing body hair — even as a teenager it was a kind of "torture".

For a while, the Malaga-based journalist and blogger decided to simply "minimize the periods of suffering" by only shaving in summer.

She figured that no would would see her legs in winter anyway.

This year though, Goñi — who confesses to being "very hairy" — has reached a crisis point and is no longer sure whether to keep fighting her body hair.

After seven months of not shaving she is enjoying the "black forest" on her very "white legs".

In a blog piece that has gone viral, the journalist wonders whether she will go back to her summer self.

She also ponders how it is that being getting rid of body hair has become normal.

Her trawl through the internet revealed that while women are turning their backs on removing public hair, almost no one talks about scrapping the shaving of armpits and legs.

Now Goñi is arguing that women should have the right to choose.

"We (women) are hairy," she writes in her piece. "We have hair in our armpits and in the pubic area, and in a million other places.

"We are hairy just like men".

In a series of photos, the writer shows off her coverage in its full glory.

Paloma Goñi shows off her armpits on her blog.

She describes how her boyfriend initially declined to take the snaps describing them as "an aesthetic attack".

But that's what she wanted — to "change the idea of female beauty we have".

"I don't know if I'm going to succumb to the pressure and get rid of my hair," Goñi concludes in her blog piece.

"But I do know that if I do, I am distancing myself from the real me."

Goñi's call to arms has been covered by press in both Spain and Italy.
