Man stabbed to death on Stockholm street

A man was stabbed to death on a central Stockholm street on Thursday evening with police classifying the crime as murder.

Witnesses have reported seeing a man flee along Sveavägen after the stabbing which took place near Rådmansgatan metro station.

"The matter has employed significant resources and a lot our of our time during the night, but we haven't yet arrested anyone in the case," said Lotta Goffhé at Stockholm police to the Dagens Nyheter daily.

The stabbing occurred at around 11pm in the area between the Stockholm Public Library and Rådmansgatan metro near the Stockholm School of Economics.

The man is reported to have been stabbed in the face or throat and died from his injuries at the scene. Ambulance staff made attempts to resuscitate the man without success.

Around ten police units took part in the search for the assailant who was seen fleeing from the scene by several witnesses.

The police have not yet been able to identify a suspect.

The matter is being handled by Norrmalm's police who have not released any details about the case nor the identity of the deceased.

The matter will be transferred to homicide police on Friday, according to the Dagens Nyheter daily.
