Woman and child forced into 'frightening' crash

Three young men who felt "provoked" by a woman on a road in eastern Sweden are suspected of assault and reckless driving after they taunted the woman and both vehicles ended up in a ditch.

The woman, who was driving just outside of Gävle with her three-year-old child on Sunday afternoon, overtook the three men just before the accident.

"They apparently felt provoked and drove up alongside the woman, and forced her off the road," Peter Hultqvist of the Gävleborg police told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

The woman claims that the men were mocking exaggerated applause before the crash, which saw both vehicles spin off opposite sides of the road and into ditches.

While the woman and her child escaped without injuries, the car belonging to the young men landed up-side down and the trio was rushed to the Gävle hospital.

The men now face charges of aggravated assault and reckless driving.

Police do not suspect the young men were intoxicated, which police officer Peter Hultqvist said makes the incident "all the more frightening".
