The two students, both aged only 18, were placed in custody on Saturday, and bail was set at €10,000.

The young men are facing prison over their alleged involvement in an attack on June 3rd in 'S Arenal (El Arenal), near Palma, the island's Diario de Mallorca newspaper reported on Monday.

The victim of the attack, also a foreigner, was left requiring facial surgery.

A third young man was set free.

The two suspects remanded by the Majorca court were on holiday on the island with class mates when they allegedly punched and kicked their victim, leaving him with serious injuries.

He was taken to the emergency unit at a Palma hospital where he underwent facial reconstruction surgery.

The three suspects on Sunday denied taking part in the crime but witnesses were able to identify two of the men.

The reasons for the attack are not known.
