"The divers found her dead at around 12.40pm near the scene of the accident. Doctors will come to pronounce her dead and the relatives have just been informed," Stefan Dangardt of the Dala Police told the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.

"There is no one else missing in the area."

The accident occurred when the girl and her family were out in their boat in the lake, which forms part of Lake Runn and lies between Falun and Borlänge.

The boat is reported to have struck a submerged rock and the impact of the collision led to the girl and her family falling into the water.

The girl's life vest got caught on the boat and came off. She fell under the surface of the water and the members of her family immediately began attempts to locate her.

A massive search party was sent out soon after the accident, but was called off at around midnight after divers were unable to find the girl or retrieve her body.
