The famous sausage kiosk featured in the wildly popular Tatort detective series has reopened in Cologne.

The joint gained notoriety in Germany and beyond as the place where detectives Freddy Schenk (Dietmar Bär) and Max Ballauf (Klaus J. Behrendt) stuffed themselves full of chips at the end of the show after solving yet another crime successfully.

The kiosk was forced to move from its original spot outside the Cologne chocolate museum three years ago and has been without a home since, leaving tourists who had come to search for it, bitterly disappointed.

“I used to get inquiries every week, even from Switzerland,” said owner Ralf Jäger. Now he’s delighted to have found a new home for the kiosk, which he’s had for 57 years.

During the filming of Tatort episodes, the “Wurstbraterei” kiosk is transported to the other side of the River Rhine to appear to the backdrop of Cologne’s old town and its famous cathedral.

The Tatort detectives were not spotted at Saturay’s re-opening of the joint but are likely to return to sample a sausage under the cover of darkness while on a break from solving their next crime.
