The festival’s James Fleetham collected 414 cards, 14 more than required to break the record, it Tweeted on Tuesday.

CEO of Festival of Media Global organiser C Squared, Charlie Crowe, commented: “To know that the Festival of Media Global has gone down in history like this is truly a momentous occasion.”

The record attempt that began at 11am on Monday and ended at 11am on Tuesday was officially supervised by Marco Frigatti from Guinness World Records.

Frigatti followed Fleetham for the entire 24 hours to ensure that all cards were collected through genuine networking interactions and no duplicate cards were collected.

All those attending the two-day festival of media creativity and innovation were able to take part in the record attempt.

The theme of the event was "from content to commerce", and it featured speakers from firms including Blackberry, Visa and Facebook.

Organisers say the festival has more than doubled in size since its launch in 2007. It attracts around 700 delegates from 40 countries.
