A 24-year-old man in southern Germany lost control of his car on Monday night, flying through the air and eventually crashing through the side of a barn. He survived the spectacular crash with serious injuries.

The man was driving through the Lindau region of Bavaria near the Austrian border when he careened off the road, police in nearby Kempten said on Tuesday. His car caught the side of a small tree and flew two metres into the air.

After the car smashed straight through the wooden side of the abandoned barn, a large part of the building collapsed and buried the vehicle and the driver, who was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital.

With the building poised to collapse further, the car will not be retrieved from the wreckage. Total damages are estimated at being around €30,000.
