Google 'ideal employer' for Swedish students

A majority of Swedish business, IT and science engineering students would like to land a job with Google, according to the 2013 Ideal Employer Rankings.

The survey, published annually by employer-branding company Universum, lists Sweden's most attractive employers within the fields of economy, technology and IT.

Among law students, Google is the tenth most popular employer and among those studying real estate Google comes in at number 15.

Jonas Lindberg, engineering manager at Google, said that he was proud that the company has topped three categories for the first time.

"Google aspires always to be at the forefront when it comes to developing innovative services for our users and creating a culture that promotes creativity, fun and innovation among our co-workers," said Lindberg.

He added that the survey results show that Google is "on the right track".

Over 20,000 students from 30 leading universities participated in the Universum survey - the highest number so far.

Students cited security, a good work-life balance, intellectual challenges and competitive work environments as important factors weighing into their choice of employers.

Google has long been seen as an ideal employer among IT and technology students, but this year is the first time that the company has topped the list among business students, too.

Ikea has been most popular employer among business students since 2003, but this year the furniture giant came in second.

H&M slipped, too, going from third to fourth place.

Despite Google's popularity, the lists are generally dominated by Swedish companies, which are regarded as more stable and secure.

Spotify went straight to third place among IT students, while Skanska beat Google among Bachelor of Science Engineering students.

Volvo Group, ABB and Vattenfall were also rated highly among the students.

In Universum's study, students are targeted separately according to their main fields of study: Business, IT, Law, Real Estate, Bachelor of Science Engineering and Master of Science Engineering.
