Metro thief is wanted for Paris killing
A Tunisian man wanted for a killing in Paris in 2011, is the same one currently in jail in Sweden for leaving a drunken man for dead on train tracks, after picking his pockets.
The 28-year-old thief made headlines worldwide in September 2012, when he left a drunk man on the train tracks after picking his pockets at the Sandsborg metro stop in southern Stockholm.
Minutes later, the robbery victim was hit by a train and has since had part of his leg amputated.
Now, a French television viewer has said he recognizes the man from security footage from a 2011 killing in Paris. The French citizen alerted friends in Sweden, who then contacted the police about their friend's suspicion that the subway robber was a wanted killer.
“There are also photos in the French case, and we’ve been able to compare them with the man currently being detained in Sweden,” Johan Sone of the Swedish Criminal Investigation Department was quoted as saying in French daily Le Parisien.
“We can now confirm that this is one and the same person,” said Sone, who also confirmed that the Tunisian had been wanted in France for “assault and manslaughter.”
The thief was sentenced late last year to 18 months in prison for aggravated robbery,
After serving his sentence he will be extradited to France to face an investigation and potential charges.
