Lidl pulls goulash off Swedish store shelves
Lidl has pulled two types of ready-made meals from the shelves of its Swedish stores amid fears they could contain horsemeat, the company said on Monday.
The German discount chain said it was withdrawing its canned beef goulash and tortellini bolognese "as a precaution" in Sweden and in neighbouring Findland, while tests were carried out to ensure they didn't contain horsemeat.
Lidl said last week it had found traces of horse in a product sold by its Austrian subsidiary.
Several Swedish supermarket chains have already pulled their lasagne dishes produced by France's Comigel.
A spokeswoman for Lidl Sweden said the company's own-brand goulash and tortellini, produced by German group Dreistern, had been removed from stores.
"Right now we have removed them, while we're looking into this," Caroline Forsshell said.
