Police were alerted at 2.40pm on Monday after a 25-year-old man was reportedly shot in the head.

"The person has died. We have a forensic team on the scene," said Nina Dahlström of the Uppsala police to the Aftonbladet newspaper.

The man was shot outdoors in a residential part of Västerleden in Enköping, eastern Sweden.

According to Aftonbladet, police have brought someone in for questioning, but no arrests have been made.

"Right now, we're in the middle of a murder investigation and are working at full speed. I can't go into any further details," Dahlström told the paper.

The victim was known to police.

Officers are currently knocking on doors in the area and looking for witnesses.

According to the local Upsala Nya Tidning (UNT), police had set up a checkpoint on a road near the scene to inspect cars travelling through the area, snarling rush hour traffic.

Local residents remain rattled by the death.

"It's frustrating that it's so unsafe here," one witness told UNT.

"You don't feel safe. That's the way my children come home from school.
