Ryanair eyes domestic routes in Sweden
The CEO of Ryanair visited Gothenburg on Tuesday, announcing the budget airline had plans for domestic flights in Sweden in the offing, while also denying SAS's claims they lie about take-off weights.
Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary also said on Tuesday that the company was planning to fly from additional airports in Sweden in the future.
"We're keen to develop in Sweden, but we're going to need more planes. This will happen between 2014 and 2016," he said at the conference, according to the Göteborgs-Posten newspaper (GP).
O'Leary said the company planned to add up to 200 extra Boeings to its fleet.
When O'Leary was probed about competitor SAS's recent claims that Ryanair lies about the weight of its aircraft to reduce fees, he denied the accusations.
"It's not true. We're focusing instead on continuing to grow," he told the TT agency.
If Ryanair indeed was providing inaccurate aircraft weight figures to European aviation agency Eurocontrol, the airline would enjoy lower landing fees.
O'Leary wished the Scandinavian airline the best of luck in the future.
"We wish SAS luck and hope they hang around. It's good to have competition so the consumers have more choice. And with the prices they charge - ours seem even lower."
