Swedish village of four set to get megamall
The four residents of Långflon near Sweden's border to Norway are about to see a 6,500-square metre mall built in their tiny village.
"Of course it is crazy. I'm sure there's not a mall like it in such a tiny village anywhere in the world," developer Morten Johansen told the local Wermlands Nya Tidning newspaper.
His family already owns a more modest sized food store in the teeny village in Värmland County.
"A lot of people laugh at us but I think it will be a success. We already have an annual turnover of 80 million kronor ($12 million), which has to be one of the highest rates per square metre anywhere in Sweden," Johansen added.
Their current store already employs 20 people, four times the entire population of the village.
Expanding in such a sparsely populated place may seem likie a crazy idea until one takes into account the proximity to Norway. The exchange rate allows Norwegians close to the border often nip over to Sweden to buy cheaper food.
Norwegians Gerd and Bertil Bråten told Wermlands Nya Tidning that they were excited about the megamall plans.
"It will be super. We save so much money on food here in Sweden. But what us Norwegians really want is for them to start selling alcohol.""
