Cops find Finnish car on Swedish tram tracks
Police were called in when a confused motorist was found driving on Stockholm’s tram line on Sunday night, after reportedly getting stuck on the tracks and deciding to keep driving until the next station.
The car, which is registered in Finland, travelled along the tram lines in Hammarby Sjöstadt, southern Stockholm.
“The driver was sober but couldn’t explain how he ended up on the tracks,” Albin Näverberg of the Stockholm police told the Dagens Nyheter newspaper (DN).
The man was driving his wife and child and managed to get all the way from Mårtensdal to Gullmarsplan station, a distance of around one kilometre.
Police who arrived on the scene were left scratching their heads as to how they could remove the vehicle, which was stuck with wheels on both sides of the tracks.
Officers even considered reversing the vehicle for the entire kilometre, according to the paper.
It was a tractor that eventually saved the day after the car had been stuck for several hours, dislodging the vehicle around 10pm and allowing traffic to proceed as usual.
The driver was allowed to walk free, no doubt safer on foot than behind the wheel.
“The man is not suspected of any crime, though he seems to be sufficiently shocked anyway,” Näverberg told DN.
