"We shall see what the forensic investigation shows, but at the moment we don't suspect a crime," said Thomas Fuxborg at Västra Götaland police.

Juha Jonsson was found by a passer-by on Saturday morning ending a search which had begun when he disappeared after spending an evening at the Sticky Fingers pub.

The man told the Göteborgs-Posten daily how he saw something floating off the shore close to the Rosenlund ferry terminal in central Gothenburg.

"My first thought was 'there is a doll lying there'. But I looked a little closer and realized that it was something else. Something that had been lying there a long time," he said.

The man called the police who were able to identify the man thanks to an identification card found in his pocket.

Jonsson's family were informed of the find at around lunchtime on Saturday.

"It is Juha's body. It feels good to have a confirmation but my reaction will have to wait until I have been to the morgue and seen the body," Juha Jonsson's brother told the newspaper.
