Charges have been filed against a man who ordered the sexual exploitation of Philippine children so he could watch the acts via webcam back in Sweden.

He will face charges of instigating aggravated rape (anstiftan till grov våldtäkt), according to Swedish prosecutors.

The man ordered his co-offenders to assault children between the ages of 6 and 10 while he watched from his home in Skåne in southern Sweden.

It is the first time a person in Sweden has been charged for directing a sexual assault in another country, Thomas Andersson at the child rights organisation Ecpat told news agency TT.

The children involved were often family members or neighbours of the women, who sometimes even took the kids out of school to perform sex acts when their families were short of money.

The man will also be charged for possessing child pornography found on his computer.

This case is unique in Sweden, although police suspect that the crime itself is nothing new.

The trial will start next week.

"Bearing in mind how he went about it and the age of the children, his crime should be treated very seriously," case prosecutor Måns Björklund told TT, adding they would ask for extensive prison time if the man is found guilty.

"It is extremely rare that an offender is charged for sexual offences abroad," Andersson said.

"It requires witnesses, that people notice these kinds of crime and report them."
