"There's quite a big difference between the contestants, that way the family can watch Melodifestivalen together," Anna Wilborg, spokeswoman for Melodifestivalen at SVT, told The Local.

The first set of 16 names contains the artists who will compete at the qualifying rounds in Karlskrona and Gothenburg, with the second set to be announced on Monday.

With the winner of the competition representing Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest next year, eager fans will be tuning in their TV sets nationwide to keep track of all the developments.

And considering Loreen's dramatic victory in Azerbaijan in May, 2013's Eurovision at the Malmö Arena will be a hot topic far and wide as the competition draws near.

With this year's artists hand-picked from 2,500 applicants, viewers can expect a mix of fresh faces and diverse genres.

While Joacim Cans will represent the Swedish metal scene as the lead singer of HammerFall, Cookies N Beans are looking to sway the audience in their own direction with alternative country.

Eric Gadd, one of Sweden’s strongest soul singers, has been singled out as a potential favourite for the older generation.

"If you're a little bit older you might like Gadd. He was the soul-king of Sweden years ago," Wilborg said.

Comedy rapper Sean Banan will also try to make it into the finals this year after he missed the chance in 2012.

Be sure to keep an eye out for this year’s youngsters too, with YOHIO and Felicia Olsson both a mere 17 years young.

Meanwhile, Wilborg insisted that there is no way of guessing the winner.

"The Swedish people are voting. There are so many different types of music that you never know what is going to happen."

Melodifestivalen will kick off in Karlskrona on February 2nd, 2013 after which Gothenburg contestants will get their chance to shine on February 9th, 2013.
