While the football world is still dizzy from Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s amazing goal against England on Wednesday, a German player says his similar shot 35 years ago was better. We have videos of both. What do you think? Have your say.

Klaus Fischer’s goal for Germany against Switzerland on November 16, 1977 has been called the goal of that century. And although he was full of praise for Zlatan’s goal, Fischer said his was more technically difficult.

“I watched the goal on the television,” Fischer told the Hamburger Morgenpost newspaper.

“It was sensational – something that makes your heart flutter. You don’t see a goal like that every day, which is why you always remember them,” he said.

“I don’t want to blow my own trumpet, but my backwards kick was more difficult from a technical point of view than that of Ibrahimovic.

“With mine, the cross came from the side, one had to hit the ball perfectly in the air, with ones back to the goal and also get past the goalkeeper.”

Zlatan’s goal was perhaps more eye-catching, but more straight-forward, he said.

“Zlatan was very far from the goal. But the box was empty. Had he got the ball from a defender not from the goalie he would have certainly not have tried such a thing.”
