A security guard from northwestern France has been given a four month suspended sentence and a fine after conning an ex-girlfriend out of money by claiming he was a chief police officer.

The man, a 50-year-old security guard from Cotes-d’Amor region, told the women he was a chief officer in Rennes, and was taking a few months off work for depression after the death of his son.

One of the women transferred her monthly salary to his bank account after he told her he needed the money to pay council tax.

He also used his false identity to tell a neighbour to stop making noise. He dressed in a police uniform bought from the internet and a false police badge, .
