Staff at the Olivier restaurant in Castres, near Toulouse, were preparing for lunchtime when one of the chefs took a knife and stabbed three of the waitress on Thursday, newspaper Le Parisien reported.

One waitress, 22, died from her injuries, while another, 18, is in a critical condition in hospital, and the third is being treated for a stab wound to the shoulder.

The young man was immediately arrested and taken into custody, where he told police he was the victim of bullying in the restaurant.

He said his colleagues were mocking him and calling him names, which spurred on the violent attack.
