A new biography about France’s First Lady, Valérie Trierweiler, claims she had a long-term relationship with one of Nicolas Sarkozy’s former top advisors which continued for a while after she met current president François Hollande.

The book claims Trierweiler had "very serious" relationship with Patrick Devedjian, a close advisor and friends to Nicolas Sarkozy through the 1990’s.

Entitled “La Frondeuse”, or the troublemaker, the book is written by the new boss of the political desk of national channel TF1, Christophe Jakubyszyn, and one of their senior reporters, Alix Bouilhaguet.

“At the time they were engaged. They were both hesitant to make the big jump, to change their lives,” Jakubyszyn told magazine Point de Vue.

“Patrick Devedijan dithered for so long that Valérie Trierweiler started dated another man from the other side - François Hollande.”

The relationship apparently fizzled out completely about 10 years ago, while Devedijan was working for the Raffarin government, and Trierweiler was a political reporter for Paris Match.
