The victim, a man in his forties, was shot in an attack which consisted of “several shots” according to witness testimonies, leaving the man alive but seriously injured.

One person was arrested in connection with the crime but police would not elaborate on the actual allegation.

Several witnesses contacted police shortly before 9:30pm after hearing the gunfire, and officers found the wounded man surrounded by onlookers and people who were trying to help.

The man was taken by a police-escorted ambulance to the hospital in Helsingborg, where staff members have confirmed that man's injuries, although the exact details of his injuries remain unknown.

“We have consistent evidence that suggests several shots were fired. We are unsure whether more than one hit the man,” said Calle Persson of the Skåne police to the TT news agency.

Officers working at an ongoing football match nearby between Helsingborg IF and Malmö FF were called from the site to contribute to the investigation.

Police officers worked late into the night interrogating witnesses and knocking on doors in the area.
