Charges have been filed against a 15-year-old boy for bodily harm following his involvement in a skateboarding accident where he crashed into a woman who later died from the fall.

The boy collided with the woman in June in the town of Värnamo, located in central Sweden, about 70 kilometres south of Jönköping.

The woman, who was in her sixties, was walking on a path designated for cyclists and pedestrians when the collision occurred, causing her to fall backwards and hit her head on the pavement.

Both the woman and the boy were rushed to hospital immediately after the accident, but the woman died four days later due to a brain haemorrhage.

"It's extremely tragic," a Värnamo police spokesperson wrote on their website at the time.

The boy sustained only minor injuries.

Police initially launched a wrongful death investigation in order to determine whether the 15-year-old should be formally charged for causing the woman's death, however this case has been now laid to rest.

The incident was reported to the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) in accordance with Sweden's Lex Maria, the informal name for regulations governing the reporting of injuries or incidents in the Swedish health care system.
