Pippi's missing body found in vet’s freezer

Pippi the cat, who was believed to have been buried in a mass grave in Malmö against her owner's will, turned up on Friday in the freezer of the local vet.

“At first I was quite scared and thought they’d found another cat, but it was her,” said Pippi’s owner Erika Rosengren to the local Helsingborg Dagbladet newspaper.

The vets initially told Rosengren that they had sent the cat’s ashes to Malmö, southern Sweden, despite the cat owner’s clear requests to have Pippi’s ashes sent to her in the post.

While the vets had indeed sent an urn of ashes out to Rosengren at the time, she realized quickly that the ashes were not Pippi’s and the documents didn’t match.

The vets then explained that they had made an error, and had accidentally sent Pippi to the mass grave.

Rosengren had already bought a private plot of land for her reclusive cat near her home in Klippan, southern Sweden, and was devastated that Pippi would not be buried according to her original plan.

“Pippi didn’t like other animals – she didn’t even like our dog – so I arranged a completely new patch of land in the corner of the cemetery. I wanted her to be alone in death as she enjoyed being in life,” she told The Local at the time.

On Friday the cat was buried in the original plot in Klippan.

“Now I am so happy that I don’t have the energy to be angry any longer. There was so much emotion, but it ended well,” Rosengren told the paper.

The head vetinarian, Karin Eickhodd, has written an official apology to Rosengren for the mix-up.
