According to a report in the Aftonbladet daily, 25-year-old Gabriella Gardell called her mum at 7pm on Saturday evening.

"I am alive and well," she is reported to have said, adding that she was currently in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Gabriella Gardell was due to return from her sun, sea and sand holiday in the Red Sea resort on Monday August 27th.

But she never boarded the plane home and after contact from Gardell's parents via Gotland police, the Swedish police issued an international search warrant.

Gardell explained to the newspaper that the reason for the spontaneous extension to her holiday was that she had "met a guy" and fallen in love with him and the country.

"I found love, and I didn't think about getting in touch. I am sorry that I have made people worry," she said.

"I am impulsive", she added.

After working all summer as a restaurant manager in Visby on the Baltic island of Gotland, Gabriella decided to treat herself to a relaxing holiday in Egypt.

On Saturday, she sent a text message to her family from the luxury hotel Tropitel Naama Bay in Sharm el Sheikh, where she was staying.

"Am lying by the pool and having a really nice time," she wrote.

That was the last that Gabriella's family heard from her until Saturday evening when the mystery came to an end.
