Menni sentenced to seven years in prison
Nasserdine Menni, found guilty by a Scottish jury of funding Stockholm suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab’s December 2010 attack, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
During the trial, which ended in Glasgow in July, Menni denied working with Abdulwahab, who blew up his car and then himself in a botched attack near a busy shopping street in Stockholm on December 11, 2010.
The blast killed Abdulwahab and injured two people.
After a 11-week trial and a two day deliberation, the jury announced that they found Menni guilty of funding the Stockholm attack.
The verdict on the conspiracy to murder charge was, however, not proven.
Sentencing Menni, the judge said that because the jury had returned a not proven verdict in connection with conspiracy to murder, he would "leave out the events in Sweden".
How this will affect the Swedish investigation into the Stockholm bombing is not yet clear.
”Now that we know he is guilty, what he is guilty of and what the sentence is, we will take it from here and decide what to do next,” said Agnetha Hilding Qvarnström, the deputy chief prosecutor who is responsible for the Swedish investigation, to news agency TT.
Hilding Qvarnström could not elaborate on what the sentence means for the Swedish investigation. Menni is the only one who has been charged for the suicide bomb attack in Stockholm. Abdulwahab is dead and the Swedish investigation is shrouded in secrecy.
She added that she couldn’t say when the Swedish investigation would be over.
”No, it is hard to say today,” Hilding Qvarnström said to TT.
