The smuggler, a 33-year-old man, was on the way from Barcelona to Stockholm in early June, on a two day trip via Denmark, and had 54 small capsules of cocaine inside his stomach, according to the Expressen newspaper.

Upon arrival at Arlanda airport in Stockholm, the man confessed to border security that there were capsules inside him and that he was feeling ill.

Police immediately took the man to hospital, where an x-ray confirmed that there were over 50 capsules inside his body, wrote the paper.

The man has now been sentenced by the Attunda court to five years in prison for aggravated drug crimes and drug smuggling.

The man was working for a drug lord in Barcelona who had allegedly promised the man €3 ($3.75) for every gramme of cocaine he managed to take across the border.

Each capsule weighed an average of 14 grammes, with the man’s stomach containing 753 grammes of cocaine and the smuggler had calculated that he would have made €4,200 from his haul.

After his sentence is served, the man will be deported from Sweden and kept from returning to the country until 2022.
