The husband, who was convicted for triple murder in 1975, was found in the apartment with the deceased woman shortly after 10am on Monday.

“A relative discovered the woman in the apartment and he then found a man. The woman is dead and the man is seriously injured,” said Leif Hultman of the Värmlands police to the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.

Police gave no details regarding the murder – other than announcing that “a certain amount of violence took place in the apartment.”

Besides the fact that the pair was married, police were unwilling to disclose any further information.

The elderly man was taken to Centralsjukhuset hospital in Karlstad where his injuries were announced not to be life threatening.

The murder suspect was a known killer, having fatally shot his then fiancée and her parents in December 1975 in central Sweden, according to national broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT).

The fiancée’s then 10-year-old daughter was also seriously injured in the attack, and the killer was sentenced to psychiatric care.
