Despite pouring rain over a hundred volunteers turned up on Tuesday morning to take part in the search which had been extended to an area south of Skullerud .

According to the Verdens Gang daily, an interesting find has led to police to consider the new location.

"Some interesting finds have been made in this area which make us want to conduct a more thorough search," said Thor Langli at Oslo police.

It remained unclear on Tuesday however whether the finds at Skullerud could be connected to the disappearance of Sigrid Giskegjerde Schjetne who was reported missing at 12.30am after having left a friend's house to walk the two kilometres home.

Over 400 volunteers took part in the search on Monday but they were sent home around midnight. At around 10am on Tuesday some 150 or so volunteers had gathered by Østensjø school to take part in the third day of the search.

Giskegjerde Schjetne family's spokesperson Geir Strand said that the family were very pleased for the commitment displayed by the community in the case.

He said the family were still hoping for a happy conclusion, although they were acutely aware that three days had now passed since their teenage daughter disappeared.

"The family have their thoughts, but they still have hope and faith," Geir Strand told NTB.

16-year-old Sigrid Giskegjerde Schjetne was on his way home from a friend when she disappeared.  Her shoes and mobile phone were found near a kindergarten on the route between her friend's house and her home. There were also witness reports of hearing screams around the time she was reported missing.
