Police suspect woman's ex for Malmö death
The 52-year-old woman who died from her injuries after an apartment brawl on Monday was most likely killed by her ex-partner, police revealed during a press conference on Tuesday morning.
“A warrant has been issued for his arrest,” said Frida Lindhe of the police during the press meeting.
The woman and the 59-year-old man were in the process of separating after the demise of a relationship spanning many years. The man was resident at the central Malmö address, the home they previously shared, when the woman came to visit.
Why she was there is currently unknown to the police, who had received a call from a concerned neighbour shortly after midday on Monday.
When they arrived at the apartment building, the man had already vacated the flat and locked the door behind him, making it necessary for the officers to force the door open.
They immediately tried to save the seriously injured woman’s life, but when the ambulance arrived she was pronounced dead.
Her ex-partner is still at large, according to police. He has no previous convictions but officers had been called to the same flat almost a year ago, when a neighbour reported some kind of foul play taking place in the apartment. But by the time officers arrived at the scene, the situation had calmed down.
On Monday several witnesses saw the man exit the flat and the police have since tried to reach him on his phone and a large number of officers are out looking for him, according to police.
“The violence was aimed at one person, so there is no need for the general public to fear him. Separation and custody battles can trigger violence,” said Lindhe, according to daily Aftonbladet.
The couple have a teenage daughter, but she was reportedly not at home at the time of the incident. She has since been taken into care by social services.
