The attack occurred on Saturday afternoon in the Luleå neighbourhood Hertsön, in the far north of Sweden.

Several people were bitten and police officers arrived quickly on the scene.

“We received a call reporting that a dog had been biting people,” police officer Karolina Tomtén told local newspaper Norrländska Socialdemokraten (NSD).

Once there, the police shot the violent dog, which survived and ran off.

According to eye-witnesses, the police yelled at local residents to go inside when the dog came running. The police were forced to chase the dog around until they managed to put it down.

“From what I know now, several people have been bitten and injured. The dog has been killed now,” Peter Edin, duty officer of the Norrbotten police force, told NSD.

Three people were taken to nearby Sunderby hospital, although the severity of their injuries remains unclear.

The area in which the attack occurred is residential, with many children who were out playing in the yards when the dog went on the offensive.
