The computer technician met both girls on the internet, the Zurich court head on Tuesday. He sexually abused one and raped the other, online news site 20 Minuten reported.

“I had no long-term girlfriend and was frustrated,” the man said in an attempt to explain.

The first girl he met was 15 years old. He had made contact with her over the internet and then appeared suddenly outside her house. He forced her into the basement, dressed in a balaclava and armed with a knife. He made her perform sexual acts with the blade against her neck.

The second victim was only 14 years old. This time he lured her into meeting him outside her school gates, using the name Martina as a pseudonym.

Once again, the man was masked and threatened the girl with a knife. Vowing to slit her throat if she did not comply, the man then raped the girl.

Having sent the girl a text message shortly before this last crime, the police were able to track him down a couple of days later.

In court, the rapist tried to play down the attack, saying that he had not known she was a minor and that he had only used the blunt side of the knife against her neck. The defence also tried to pass the knife off as a harmless "boy’s knife".

But the court did not agree and found that the knife was in fact dangerous and that he had deliberately targeted young girls.

The court sentenced the man to ten years in prison and order him to pay damages to his victims. A psychologist's report found that the risk of the man repeating the offence was medium to high and so he will be required to remain an outpatient when released.
