A French lawyer has asked a judge in a courthouse in Marseille to ask Madonna to testify as a witness. Two technicians died when a stage collapsed before one of her concert in 2009.

"This request is justified, because three years after the tragedy, the insurance companies of the producers working for Madonna have not yet given any compensation money to the victims and their relatives," Philippe Vouland, a laywer representing victim 52-year-old Charles Criscenzo, told le Parisien.

In July 2009, technicians were installing the roof of the stage before one of Madonna’s concerts when it collapsed and killed two men, including a 23-year-old Briton, and injured 8 others.

Tour Concept France, the production company in charge of setting up the stage underestimated the weight of the 67-ton roof. When a crane lifted it above the stage, the sling attached to the roof snapped.

Vouland also insists Madonna’s testimony would help the court understand the procedure and set-up for her concerts.

The lawyer says technicians were pressed into working as quickly as possible to give Madonna a lot of time to rehearse before the show.

Tour Concept France’s manager Matthieu Anton has been charged with manslaughter.

Madonna will be in France for two concerts in July and August.
