Three runaway children travelled from La Roche-sur-Yvon on the west coast of France to Cannes in the south of France, covering 1000 km, according to the French daily Le Parisien.

On Saturday morning, last week, two sisters aged 14 and 10, and their brother aged 8 decided enough was enough: they wanted to leave home and stay with their grandmother.

The three children were upset over their parents divorce. That morning, their mother had dropped them off at their father’s home for the weekend.

The siblings pretended to go to a local shop and set off for the train station. The eldest had stolen two train tickets at home and bought a third one with her pocket money.

Though they had to change trains twice, once in Nantes and then again in Lyon, they were determined to see their expedition through to the end.

The eldest daughter even threatened to change course if the parents called the police or tried to intercept them.

A little after 10:00pm the children arrived in Cannes and were welcomed by their grandmother at the station. Their mother joined them the following day.
