The man, who resided in Sweden and was a Danish citizen, was found in the Hallandsåsen region shortly after 9:30 in the morning on Sunday, according to the Helsingborg Dagbladet newspaper (HD).

The truck, which was registered in Denmark, was found in a parking place at the Rasta roadside restaurant by police who thought the vehicle was abandoned.

It remains unclear how long the truck had been in the parking place, though it has been confirmed that it was there before Sunday, according to the TT news agency.

Local police later admitted they suspect foul play.

“We believe he was murdered,” said Per Lidehäll of Skåne police to daily Aftonbladet.

Police are not divulging any further details in the case, including the type of fatal injuries that the man sustained, and are seeking information from anyone that was in the vicinity.

Neither are police revealing details of the truck’s contents, nor whether there was any damage to the vehicle.

The man's boss in Denmark reported him missing on Sunday morning, shortly before he was discovered dead in the long-haul truck he was thought to be driving, the Expressen newspaper reports.

According to Danish media, the man is believed to have ties with the Outlaws motorcycle gang.

Sources from withing biker gang circles confirmed the 53-year-old's biker gang ties for Expressen newspaper, but police refused to comment on the information.

"We can go into details about the forensic investigation. Nor am I going to comment on what sort of violence was involved," Skåne police spokesperson Nils Norling told HD.

While police remain tight lipped about the circumstances of the killing, they continue to interview people with ties to the man’s life.

According to Expressen, the Outlaws are in violent battle with rival motorcycle gang Hells Angels, and there are signs the man's death may be related to an ongoing gang war between the rival groups.
