The Limmat Valley junior football coach was caught by police in Dietikon not six weeks after his previous conviction with 1.7 per mille of alcohol in his blood.

Having drunk a litre of beer at a restaurant near to his house, he nevertheless chose to drive the short distance home, online news site 20 Minuten reported.

He had only recently been given a suspended fine of 10,800 francs ($11,256) by the court, which was swayed to give him a second chance because he had abstained from drinking alcohol for three months prior to the hearing and voluntarily attended a special learning programme.

This time the court was not so lenient. Judge Bruno Amacker pointed to the fact that the coach had repeated the later offence so close to the earlier one, and had a 20-year record of repeated traffic offences.

As a result he was fined 10,400 francs ($10,839) plus legal costs of 2,000 francs ($2,084). These amounts were added to his suspended fine, resulting in a final record invoice of 23,200 francs ($24,179).
