Swedish man apologized for rape on Facebook

A 20-year-old man allegedly forced a woman to sex at a party in the Stockholm archipelago last summer only to apologize to her via Facebook the day after.

Both the man and the woman were attending the same party, a 50th birthday party of a mutual acquaintance in the Stockholm archipelago and were sharing a tent, according to the Metro newspaper.

The woman left the revelries and went to bed first, but was allegedly woken up by the man when he entered the tent later. According to the woman, he then forced himself on her using “some physical violence”.

The next day, he apologized to her using Facebook, reports the paper.

The man told the court that he could neither admit to nor deny the charges and the district court deemed the plaintiff’s story credible enough for a conviction.

Two other women also testified about the events of the night.

The defendant’s own account of what happened during the evening of the party the court viewed as “poor”, according to Metro.

“There were details missing in his story,” said judge Olof Nyman to Metro.

The man was subsequently convicted of rape and was given a probationary sentence.
