A 30-year-old man from Gothenburg in western Sweden was picked up by police when recuperating in hospital after crashing his car twice and then jumping in a river.

The man first crashed his vehicle into another car at Järntorget in central Gothenburg.

After driving away from his first accident he continued on his way. Until he got to Skeppsbron where he crashed into another car.

At this point the man apparently realized his situation was dire, and fled his vehicle on foot, the Göteborgs-Posten (GP) newspaper reported.

Well out of his car, he found no other way out of the debacle but to jump in the river.

However, the driver of the second vehicle he had smashed into followed him and upon seeing the man jump in the water, joined him into the ice-cold swirls.

There, he tried in vain to get the twice-over hit-and-run driver out of the wet.

Eventually emergency services arrived on the scene and managed to get both drivers out of the waters unscathed.

The man was taken to hospital to be warmed up to avoid hypothermia, and well there police informed him that he was under suspicion for two cases of hit-and-run car accidents, according to the paper.

Why the man jumped in the river still remains unclear.
