A two-year-old camel named Leila showed off her new blue and white cast in Berlin Friday after undergoing an operation on a badly broken leg.

Veterinarians at the Freie Universität in Berlin broke with their standard protocol and operated for the first time on a camel. The vets, who normally only treat horses, operated on the camel’s leg for two hours and inserted pins to help stabilize it.

The actual cause of Leila’s break is unknown, but it is assumed that she stumbled in a hole on a field at the farm in Brandenburg where she lives. Without the operation, the doctors said she would have not been able to kneel or walk again.

Leila will get around with the help of the walking cast for six weeks, and she is reportedly taking it all in her stride.
