Four of the seven suspects present for the alleged rape were charged on Wednesday in Södertälje District Court with aggravated rape.

Three of the suspects are currently 19-years-old, while the fourth man is 20. At the time of the alleged crime, however, two of the suspects were 17-years-old and one was 18-years-old.

Three other men believed to have been present for the rape have yet to be identified.

The charges stem from an incident which took place in October 2010 in the cellar of an apartment building on Prästgårdsvägen in Södertälje.

A resident heard a disturbance and called to police who arrived to find a number of young people who had been drinking. Several young men attempted to flee the scene in their underwear, according to the local Länstidningen newspaper.

The girl was extremely intoxicated at the time of the alleged gang rape and thus was considered to be in a helpless state.

According to the indictment, the perpetrators stood in a ring around the girl and took turns forcing her to perform oral sex on each of them.

Each is alleged to have acted in an exceptionally reckless and savage manner, prompting prosecutors to charge them with the more serious charge of aggravated rape.

The girl's defence lawyer Elisabeth Fritz reported that her client feels awful in the wake of the incident and has periodically been absent from school as a result.

All the suspects charged on Wednesday deny having committed any crime.
