“This was seriously unsettling. Several people have been apprehended, and others have been moved on,” said Johan Novenius of the Borås police.

After what is believed to have been a heavy tackle on the pitch, a brawl broke out between the two teams, including their respective spectators, wrote the Borås Tidning newspaper (BT).

The match, which took place on Sunday afternoon in the town of Norrby, in western Sweden, remained unresolved as the fight continued throughout the evening and into the night.

A woman in her early forties was arrested and remains in police custody for her participation in the incident.

The woman is said to be related to one of the footballers.

“She allegedly hit six people,” said the Novenius to BT.

Police were on the scene several times throughout the night, and at one point eight patrol cars were present, some staying until the early hours of Monday morning.

Novenius told the paper that he intended to keep patrols in the vicinity to ensure the situation does not flare up again, wrote the paper.
