Patrick Cazes, an amateur player of pétanque – a form of boules popular in southern France – couldn’t figure out why his boules kept disappearing, French daily La dépèche reports. The resident of a small village called Péburthe near Toulouse enjoyed playing boules on his own bowling pitch.

He would regularly leave his boules out on the pitch instead of taking them home. That’s when they started disappearing. 38 boules vanished in February and March this year.

At first Cazes suspected children in his village had taken them and left them somewhere else.

It wasonly when he decided to install an infra-red camera in his bowling pitch that Cazes got to the bottom of the story.

A young fox was stealing his boules, grabbing them in his jaw and taking them away. Cazes has decided to publish footage of the fox online here.

But there’s one thing Cazes admits he doesn’t understand. Why wasn’t the fox interested in the henhouse nearby?
