Bavaria’s state premier could face a huge bar bill if everyone he invited to a party via Facebook shows up – the politician offered entry to a famous Munich nightclub and a free drink to everyone on his social network page.

Horst Seehofer’s Facebook page includes posts such as “Late from Berlin to the Schwabinger Fish Dinner of the CSU. All respect to the Berlin office. The best office is that of the Bavarian state premier.”

On Tuesday he invited all those who had “liked” his page to a “Fanparty” at the famous P1 disco, saying he wanted to get to know as many of them personally as possible.

As of late Wednesday morning, more than 5,500 people had “liked” Seehofer’s page, while 617 people had confirmed they were going to go to the party. A further 128 people were keeping Seehofer dangling, saying they “might be” going.

The P1 disco is famous in Munich for the long, boozy parties celebrated there by German and international celebrities. It remains open until around 5 am.

“Seehofer wants to invite his fans to a drink, and there will be entertainment, although we are not releasing all information right away; we will tell people more as the time approaches,” Hans-Michael Strepp, spokesman for Seehofer’s Christian Social Union told The Local.

When asked what would happen if all those invited actually showed up, he said, “We are not thinking in terms of the worst-case scenario, rather the best-case scenario. We’re sure the P1 will be full of people,” said Strepp.

The May 8 party is on a Tuesday night, which may cramp Seehofer’s party style, Strepp admitted.

“Seehofer has government business the following day so he won’t be at the party for as long as some of his fans are likely to be. I doubt he will stay until the end,” he said.

One of Seehofer’s fans said was she celebrating her birthday that day and would certainly come to the party, although several complained that they could not go on a week night.
