Summer temperatures heading for Sweden
Frost, cold and heavy snow falls surprised many on Saturday, but April showers are about to give way to warmer weather – with temperatures up to 20 degrees Celsius expected for the week ahead.
On Saturday, meteorological institute SMHI issued a Class 1 weather warning, the lowest on a three-point scale, over Västerbotten in northern Sweden. The warning was due to snowy weather heading north from counties Värmland, Närke and Västmanland.
The heaviest snow fell in Sweden’s central counties Hälsingland, Medelpad and Dalarna, which received up to 18 centimetres of snow in places.
Sunday is expected to bring continued unsteady weather, with rain and snow predicted for the country’s northern areas, and thunderstorms in south.
But sunny days with warmer weather are not far away, according to forecasters.
Next week, warm air, with the promise of summer, is expected to hit the south of Sweden. According to SMHI, temperatures may rise up to 20 degrees Celsius in places.
“Daytime temperatures are going to rise throughout the whole of Sweden,” said meteorologist Lisa Frost to news agency TT.
But although sunshine is not too far from Swedish shores, Swedes can expect a few more days of chill and rain.
The more clement temperatures that so many are longing for are expected to arrive at the end of next week.
