SMHI has warned of icy road conditions in Götaland and Svealand, vast areas covering much of the southern half of the country.
”There is a risk that conditions will be come tricky, with a covering of ice on the roads when they freeze over. People need to be careful,” said meteorologist Emil Björck.
The risks are exacerbated by the fact that many motorists have already made the switch to summer tyres, according to Ola Nilsson at the Swedish Transport Authority (Trafikverket).
“People should drive with winter tyres. Anybody who has already changed tyres should have a serious think about either changing back or arranging alternative travel plans,” he told news agency TT.
While southern and central parts of the country can expect snow and rain to predominate on Good Friday, the forecast for Norrland offers clearer weather with the possibility of some sunshine.
On Saturday, snow showers will mostly be restricted to mountainous regions in Norrland as well as the Baltic islands of Gotland and Öland, although the most southerly parts of the mainland can also expect a light dusting of snow.
SMHI forecasts a mixture of cloudy and clear weather for most of the country, with temperatures ranging from 5 degrees Celsius in the south to -5 degrees in the north.
Easter Sunday will see some rain in Skåne in the south, while most of the rest of the country can look forward to clear weather with patches of cloud.
