Pot growers plead not guilty for 'organic' weed
Cannabis growers claiming they're innocent as their product is "organic", men biting through prison beds, and nazi t-shirts - here are some amusing tidbits from the past week in Sweden.
Man bites through bed as "revenge"
Usually it's only the bed bugs that bite, but a 29-year-old man was charged on Wednesday for vandalism after he chewed through the wooden bed frame and the mattress of the prison cell he was locked in.
The man had been arrested and jailed in October in Falkenberg, southern Sweden, and according to Hallands Nyheter newspaper, attacked the bed with his mouth as an act of revenge.
"I was angry at the police because they treated me unfairly," the man told the court.
The man has been asked to pay 697 kronor ($104) for the damages, which he said he will do willingly.
'Organic' weed growers claim they're not guilty... dude
Two men were arrested for growing "organic" cannabis in Malmö and have defended themselves in court by stating that it was a non-profit venture – as real drug dealers would never use organic soil.
"I've only used natural products, no chemicals that people use when they just want to sell as much as possible," said one of the accused men in court, according to Metro newspaper.
The men, both 24, transformed their apartment into a haven where only drugs were grown, stripping the flat of all furniture.
The owner of the apartment has also been arrested for knowingly renting the flat to drug growers.
It is alleged that there were over 50 plants in the house, which was discovered due to "a strong odour" of marijuana wafting through the mail slot.
'Racist' man goes home without the shirt on his back
A man who was arrested for wearing a t-shirt adorned with a swastika and the words "white power" was charged on Thursday for inciting racial hatred.
The man, 28, was arrested by police in Varberg, southern Sweden, in 2009 while walking around in public while wearing the shirt.
The 28-year-old was fined 20,000 kronor ($3,018) and was not given his shirt back.

Meanwhile, further north in Asige, another three people have been arrested by police in connection with the discovery of over 200 floating cannabis plants in a lake popular with swimmers (more info here).
The police, who were called in when a gobsmacked passerby saw the floating plants on Sunday, also discovered cultivation equipment in the lake such as pot-plants and electric lighting, which led investigators to a residence in Halmstad.
"We'll measure the total amount of the cannabis to see cross into the limits of aggravated drug crimes," said Anders Norberg to Hallands Nyheter.
It is unclear how the lake's fish population reacted to the incident.
